Description

This species forms a low shrub about 1m tall with bristles. The smooth leaflets are small and fern-like producing good autumn colour. The flowers are produced singly from spring to early summer and they are creamy white and have golden yellow stamens. The hips are round purple to shiny black. This plant is often found in the wild in Northern Europe. STEM: Upright, with many straight prickles or bristles. ROOT: From creeping underground stems. HAIRS: More or less absent. STIPULES: Present, narrow, lobed at tip. LEAF-STALK: Absent. BRACTS: Absent. FLOWER STALK: 0.15-2.5cm. SEPALS: 5, narrow, not toothed. PETALS: 5, broad, notched. STAMENS: Numerous. STIGMA: 1 per ovary, forming rounded head. OVARY: Numerous, 1-celled. SEEDS: Not released.
