There are about 500 species of annuals, biennials and deciduous or evergreen perennials which produce 5-petalled summer flowers. They are fully to half hardy and will need sun and fertile, well drained soil. You can propagate by softwood cuttings in the spring or by seeds in the spring or early autumn.
