Description

Clematis is a genus of mostly vigorous climbing lianas, with attractive flowers. Some species are shrubby, and some others are herbaceous perennial plants. They are found throughout the temperate regions of both hemispheres, and also in mountains in the tropics. The cool temperate species are deciduous, but many of the warmer climate species are evergreen.

Most species are known as Clematis in English, while some are also known as traveller's joy, leather flower, vase vine and virgin's bower, the last three being names used for North American species.

This genus consists of evergreen or deciduous mainly twining climbers and herbaceous perennials. The climbing Clematis is considered to be one of the most beautiful and yet most fussy ornamental vines you can grow. They are grown for their mass of flowers. They are fully to half hardy. They will require a rich soil that is kept moist, but it is well drained. They should be grown in full sun, but the roots will require shade and protection from too much heat. Their bloom colours will range from white or blue to a deep crimson red or midnight purple.

Clematis `Venosa Violacea`  - A healthy, undemanding variety with intriguing bicolor flowers. White tepals are veined in purple. Deepest purple anthers.
Suitable for growing over fences, pergolas, arbors and various garden supports. It can clamber over natural supports such as small trees and shrubs. Excellent for cultivation in large containers on terraces and balconies
