Rhododendron is a genus of flowering plants in the family Ericaceae. It is a large genus with over 1000 species, of semi-deciduous and deciduous shrubs and trees , and most have showy flower displays. It includes the plants known to gardeners as azaleas. They are grown mainly for their mass display of flowers, which will vary greatly in size from tiny blooms to large trumpets. They usually have clusters of blooms from the branch tips, and appear in every colour except bright blue. They are mainly broad leaved with roughly elliptical, usually deep green leaves. They are fully hardy to frost tender, min 4-7C and will prefer dappled shade, but a considerable number will tolerate full sun, especially in cool climates. Grow them in neutral to acidic soil which is humus-rich and well drained.
This spreading, dwarf, evergreen shrub has clusters of bright yellow, funnel-shaped flowers with brown central spots, in mid spring.
